SunGod features in 2022 Laureus Sports For Good Index

News

We're proud to sit alongside fellow B Corps like Allbirds and Patagonia, and industry giants like Adidas and Nike, as one of the 29 brands recognised in the 2022 Laureus Sports For Good Index.

The Index features brands who, through collaboration, innovation and creativity, are making significant contributions across the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Determined by a panel of independent industry experts, the Index aims to shine a light on the organisations that are having the clearest and most meaningful impact, and to provide compelling evidence for the role that sport can play in driving sustainable change.

Brands featured in the Index were assessed according to a set of seven key criteria, including:

1. Each company’s impact through sports-related Corporate Social Responsible (CSR) and environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) activities

2. Innovation and creativity during purpose-led campaigns

3. Commitment to environmental, social, and corporate governance

4. Level of investment in ‘sport for good’ causes

5. Extent to which their sports investments align with the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

6. Their commercial viability

7. An overall assessment of their commitment towards building an equitable society, reducing sport’s ecological footprint, and growing the sport’s industry’s economy through sport for good campaigns

Our entry in the index reads:

"SunGod intends to minimise its environmental impact wherever possible by focusing on areas such as lower impact packaging, improved transport solutions, increased use of recyclable materials and supporting causes that raise awareness of climate change. Every product from the UK-based eyewear company is carbon neutral, adding to its commitment to give a minimum of one per cent of revenue to sustainability-focused non-profits.

Recently, SunGod worked with the Great Britain SailGP Team, supporting the 1851 Trust to empower young people with science-based knowledge to combat climate change. The brand has also taken action to help protect the oceans through a collaboration with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS).

With 2022 proving a landmark year for women’s sport, including the return of the Tour de France Femmes in July, SunGod also established ‘The Momentum Campaign’ to drive awareness of female cyclists and celebrate women in sport."

The Index is run by sports charity Laureus, who have a vision to harness the power of sport, and use it to end violence, discrimination, and disadvantage against young people and children.

We're proud to be included in the 2022 edition of the index, and we're excited to work collaboratively with other brands to continue to use sport as a power for good.
