SunGod x SAS 2022: Introducing Infinite™ 50% Recycled Lenses

News

It’s our 3rd year working with Surfers Against Sewage and we’re back with a big difference...
At SunGod, we see a better world; through our lenses, through our actions and through doing business better. Our charity partnerships are at the centre of this, as is our partnership with Surfers Against Sewage. And as we progress on our mission to create a more sustainable SunGod future, we haven’t been sitting still. This year, for the 3rd year running our partnership with Surfers Against Sewage is back, but with a big difference - all-new Infinite™ 50% recycled lenses.

The SunGod x SAS Limited Edition Collection

Over the past 2 years, we have been proud to work alongside our community to give back to SAS through the sale of Limited Edition Microfibres. But as is the SunGod way, we’re always looking for ways to better serve our community and the charities we work with. So inspired by the work that SAS have been doing, we wanted to level-up our support this year in a way that aligns with both the SAS mission and our own mission to be better for our planet.

Our lowest impact sunglasses yet
So, this year, we’re excited to share a brand new addition: the SunGod x Surfers Against Sewage Collection. Available in Renegades™, Sierras™ and Classics³, each pair will feature our Infinite™ 100% recycled frames and, for the first time ever, Infinite™ 50% recycled lenses. A major milestone in our sustainability journey, these lenses are leading the way in sustainable innovation in the eyewear industry. The outcome of tireless research, testing and development, we’re proud to have produced a recycled lens that delivers the exceptional performance and clarity our community has come to expect, while incorporating recycled plastics into market-leading lenses. These products are our lowest impact sunglasses yet - using Infinite™ lenses over existing virgin lenses drops emissions by 43% per pair.

As always, these  Limited Edition SunGods are packaged inside 100% recycled packaging including a 100% Recycled Microfibre pouch, created from recycled plastic bottles and uniquely designed in collaboration with SAS to reflect and champion the charity’s work.

And the best part? Every product sold will include a £4 donation to SAS, which we will match. And this year we hope to double our donation contribution through our 2022 collection.

What SAS are about and how your funds are used

In their own words, Surfers Against Sewage are “a grassroots environmental charity, dedicated to the protection of the ocean, waves, beaches and wildlife.” A huge portion of the donations they receive go towards funding campaigns. From reducing plastic pollution, to campaigning against sewage contamination and lobbying politicians, SAS’ many-pronged approach is all about empowering individuals to take action and the money raised by the SunGod community goes toward supporting these campaigns. Alongside these donations, our community has been getting involved on the ground too as we put our intentions into action.

The SunGod x SAS Community river clean
In celebration of the launch of our continued partnership with SAS, we gathered with a group of our UK-based Ambassadors to clean up our local section of the River Thames in London. Part of the ‘Million Mile Clean’ campaign, SAS is encouraging the cleanup of our oceans at the source, our rivers. Together, we spent the morning combing the river bank collecting a staggering 40 bags of rubbish between us. We were shocked at the amount of litter we found but pleased to be able to mobilise our community to have an impact at such a local level. This cleanup proved to us the extent of the challenge we’re facing when cleaning up our oceans but also the power and relevance of this multi-levelled partnership we have with SAS to come together to make a genuine difference.

“We’re stoked to have the support of SunGod to help us grow our campaigns protecting the ocean for everyone."

Hugo Tagholm, CEO, Surfers Against Sewage

We're really excited to step up our support for SAS and for the introduction of Infinite™ 50% recycled lenses. This is a very real step towards a product range made entirely from recycled materials as we continue finding ways to be better for our planet. We know there is much still to be done, but by grabbing a pair today, you can help to make a real impact.
