The 3 Best Ways to Adventure Without Travelling This Summer

Stories

Save your summer! Summer 2020 can still be one to remember, here’s how…

It’s time to seize the summer. It may not be quite the one you had planned but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make the most of your adventure time. We bring you our top 3 tried and tested ways to inspire you to adventure to the max this year without setting foot abroad…

1. Keep it local

What better time has there been to explore your local community? As the world gradually returns to normal, local businesses will need your support now more than ever. With trips abroad off the cards for most, this is a great opportunity to explore what your local area has to offer. Use this time to find the best hikes, best wild swimming areas and secret picnic spots. Do some research to find out which local attractions are open and get them ticked off your list! If you're near the sea, rent a bike or kayak and explore the coastline. No matter what you do, you'll probably find something you didn't know existed, a stones-throw away from home!

2. get sporty

Gathering in large groups to appreciate or participate in sport seems like an alien concept in current times, but we’ll be back at it before you know it. So why not get involved? For many, taking up a new sport is an adventure in itself, but entering a sport event can also be a great motivator. From researching and discovering an event that piques your interest, to implementing a training plan to get yourself to the start line, this can be an incredibly fulfilling way to spend your time. Marathons to ultra-marathons, triathlons to Ironmans, no matter what you choose, it's a great way to ensure you have a tangible goal to strive towards. Many charities are struggling at the moment, so why not make your new sporting adventure one that gives back to a cause close to your heart?

3. Go Camping

Nothing says ‘adventure’ quite like hitting the open road with nothing but a tent and a sleeping bag! Often underrated, camping is an inexpensive and accessible way to immerse yourself in nature for the ultimate adventure. The beauty of camping comes from the feeling of self sufficiency and the ability to be entirely flexible depending on your mood and changes in the weather. Challenge yourself to pitch your tent in a different spot each weekend using the time to indulge in long hikes, bike rides or climbing. If you fancy a longer escape, embark on a road trip to the most remote spot you can find, set up camp, and get exploring. You won’t have to stray far from home to find these areas if you do your research, and you won’t have to see another soul if you don’t want to!

Hopefully you’re feeling inspired and ready to hatch fresh summer plans with a renewed sense of adventure. Whether you focus on one idea, or you manage to combine all of these, you can still make this summer one you won't forget!
